Sustainable transport
Get rid of your automobile-addiction
Our private automobiles are just foul addictions, as bad for our health as smoking and drinking.
Reduce the use of your automobile.
Cycle or walk within your locality.
Use buses for longer distance travel within the city.
Not feasible, utopian ?
My office is 15 km. from my home. I have been cycling or taking the bus to work for the past 10 years. I cycle 90 % of the time, take the bus 10 % of the time. I cycle everywhere, not just to my office. I restrict the use of my car to a maximum of 3 days in a month.
So start today, by walking, cycling or using the bus just 1 day in a week.
Here’s my sustainable transport story – why, how, and when I started.

Don’t measure yourself by the size of your automobile
If people judge you by the size of your car, that’s stupid.
If you judge yourself by the size of your car, that’s stupid and pathetic.
thumbs up to your low- carbon life Sir. Very great initiative!
PS: I dont know you personally, thanks to a friend who posted this link on FB…
Thanks. Would appreciate your passing on the link to this site to as many people as possible.
“An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an idea that exists only as an idea.” I truly appreciate your low -carbon life & your valuable ideas………
From a middle class point of view it looks perfect, i know lot o fthings are bought 2nd hand, over all what is the cost of your house, excluding the site cost. this would give a rough idea for all middle class families to implement most of these things.
About half the cost of a new house.
i really praise your efforts. would you be using second hand electronic gadgets?
Thank you.
Yes, we use second hand electronic gadgets too. My current mobile phone is a second hand Blackberry that I bought a month ago, for Rs. 1250.
My wife uses a second hand Mac laptop.
Our rule is that ANYTHING we buy, we first look for a used piece. If we don’t get used we try factory seconds. Only as a last resort we buy new.
what kind of a cycle do you use?
A Trek 4700. Also have a Dahon folding bike.
