Natural drying
Drying clothes
A lot of people buy a washing machine with a clothes dryer. This is a good way to waste electricity. Why not dry the clothes out in the sun, where you get the additional benefit of the sun’s UV rays bumping off bacteria in the clothes ?
Drying a mopped floor
After mopping a floor, it’s common practice to switch on the fan to dry the floor. Why waste electricity to do this ? What’s the harm if the floor dries in half an hour instead of 10 minutes ? Just let the warm air do the drying.
Assuming a 100 W ceiling fan running half an hour every day,
Saving per year by avoiding doing this : 18 KwH, or 14 kg. CO2.
I think drying a mopped floor quickly is an important need in some houses. Like in our house, most people are prone to accidents. Wet floor left to dry by itself has caused many to slip and hurt themselves. Since then it has become to rule to dry floors asap after they are mopped.
This does not seem to be a viable option for all. We could use some suggestions here.
maybe an idea would be to mop with the towel well squeezed? that would also provide some work to the wrists!

Hi Sudha.
Yes, I’ve seen this solution in Singapore. I thought the government banned it because it spoils the aesthetics of the city or something ?
